This is what Lisa Friedlander wrote after the guided meditation that I led on The Gift of Writing TeleSeminar. It is so powerful and moving, I asked her permission to share it...
Guided by a voice that seems to come from far away, I see a meadow filled with wildflowers and surrounded by distant snow-capped peaks. My dog is here, my one true dog, no longer living, the dog I hope I get to see in another life for we were meant to be together.
The sun is shining and I see wisps of shadows flickering across the ground that are other people, creative people, who are calling out to me in welcome, but it is too bright and open, and I can’t see them clearly. Even though there is a tree, it doesn’t cast enough shade in the hot sun.
A woman holds out her hand to me with a smile of welcome. I know you, she says, I have been waiting for you, come with me, I will guide you.
Then I am in a cave and all the others are with me. We are circled around a flame that burns in the darkness, the flame of creativity, that flickers and shines eternally. The others are also creative souls, who have been drawn to the flame and now welcome others to share in its power and inspiration. Here in the dark is where we can see the flame most clearly.
The woman holds me against her side. She is tall and beautiful, but most importantly, her smile is warm, welcoming. I love you, she says, just the way you are. Do not be frightened. All that you are is good. I see you. I see your goodness and your creative spirit. You can be all that you are here. We accept you. Join us. We are creative people. We are your people. We understand you. She holds me in her arms as the others come to pat my arms or shoulders, and to welcome me.
I see a deep night sky filled with millions of stars. Look, she says, those points of light are the souls of all the creative people who have lived on this earth through history. Their light, their spirits, are gifts given to the world and they still bring us light today.
You are one of those points of light. You have something to offer the world. Whether it is big or small, if you give it to one person, to many, or only to yourself, you belong here in this sky with these people.
She holds me and I feel a sense of peace and total acceptance. I am hopeful that, finally, I am home.
