I'm a novelist with a passion for teaching others how unleash their stories and put them down on the seemingly unfriendly page. I know how to do this: I've been a fiction writing coach for 30 years.
The freedom to enjoy the challenge of creativity while we write is important for fiction writers, but all too often we see our limitations instead of the vast potential of our imagination. We walk the narrow channels of what we think we should write instead of seeing the potential and possibilities of the stories and characters who are waiting for us to give them life through our fiction writing. My work as your writing coach is to Teach, Support and Inspire you to do that!
My Writing Background:
I have seven works of fiction published including, Petersburg, sold to GP Putnams for $250,000. The paperback was sold to Dell for another $200,000. Petersburg was translated into Italian, German and Spanish and reached the Best Seller's list in England. I have written many articles on writing and the creative process, and have been published in Writer's Digest. I graduated from Barnard College with a BA in Writing and English Literature. I was a founding member of the National Writer's Union and co-creator of the hugely popular Westchester County Annual Writing Conference in the 1990s. I taught writing for ten years at the International Women's Writing Guild (IWWG) Conference at Skidmore College. |
Watch an In-Depth Interview. It's a great way to explore the style and content of my work as a Writing Coach and deepen your understanding of the fiction writer's journey! "I am pleased I sent you my writing. I realize how really good you are as a writing coach. I love that you get excited about our writing and don't take it apart. You delight in our creativity, even when we're struggling. That's special, Emily. There aren't many people who do that. Thank you." ~Sara Healy
"Several months ago I asked Emily to become my writing coach. As a first time author I felt I needed help from somebody who would not only motivate me but who could offer objective technical commentary. Emily has a gift for quickly pinpointing areas of weakness in my writing and offering suggestions that clearly improve the deliverance of character and plot. I am spending ever increasing amounts of time writing and for the first time in my life I’m willing to admit to myself that I am a writer." ~Stu Watson |
2017 is the 20th anniversary of my annual week-long Writing and Creativity Retreat for Women on the magnificent shores of Bar Harbor, Maine, home of Acadia National Park.
