This five session, experiential workshop takes you through the creation of a story from the first spark of inspiration! It is for anyone looking to have a clearer understanding of how the creative process guides some of the most important fiction writing techniques. Both beginning and experienced writers are welcome. In most of the sessions, there will be twenty minutes put aside for writing that flows from each week's topic described below. You can join either by telephone or your computer from anywhere in the world!
Week 1: The Spark of Inspiration
You have a great idea for a story, you sit down to write and … the inspiration vanishes! How do you get it back? In the first session of this six-week teleworkshop, we will explore the “Spark of Inspiration” and how to make the most of it. There will be 20 minutes of writing to for you to fan the flames of the spark!
Week 2: Mining for Jewels: The Power of the Creative Chaos Revealed
The feelings of being lost as soon as you begin is a good sign and one to be expected. After the spark comes the chaos or, as some have called it, the seething sea of the unconscious. Neither chaos or a seething see feels inviting, I'll grant you that! That's why this session is so vital to the development of any work of fiction. With a new understanding of the chaos, you'll learn how to mine the chaos for the jewels of characters and storytelling that it holds.
You'll also a free audio copy of one of my favorite TeleSeminars: Creative Chaos: Its Difficulty, Its Call, Its Freedom. An audio with a transcript.

Week 3: Interviewing Your Point of View Character
Your characters have lives outside of you. They really do! The trick for the fiction writer is to unearth those lives. I've developed a technique called Interviewing Your Character, which seduces your characters to open their hearts, reveal their emotional journeys and the great dramas of their lives. If your character is timid or simply doesn't want to talk, I have ways to get her or him to talk freely! You'll be amazed at what we will uncover.
You’ll also receive a free audio: One on How to Interview Your Characters along with 50 Interviewing questions.

Week 4: Creating Dramatic Tension
You can't have a story without it, but it’s often unclear how to create tension in fiction writing. Bottom line, you don’t need a rip-roaring plot to have page-turning tension. In this session, we'll explore how dramatic tension can arise from outside the character or from a internal motivations.
Weeks 5 and 6: Putting It All Together
In these final sessions, we'll see how the writing techniques we’ve been using have woven themselves in developing characters and at least one potential story line.
